Dropping shadows

Description

This photograph really epitomises what I love about a cloudless sunny evening - the dropping of the shadows. No matter where I am - travelling long distance, on holiday, or close to home - I always appreciate evenings like this, I think because it gives me a sense of energy - even in the middle of winter.

Back to the photography side of things though - notice in the crop how that segment I choose almost looked like tilt-shift? I'm thinking of using the prime next time I take tilt-shift photography. The other reason I choose that segment was the lighting - those fiery hues on sandstone walls - the glow in the tops of the trees. There is something enchanting about that.

Finally, look at the sky - it is difficult to get a nice all-round exposure in low-light without a prime-lens. They really do justice to lighting. Especially if you're using an ooold prime like mine, which still has the aperture control on the lens itself!

About this series of photographs:
The conversion ring allowing me to use any of the lenses from my 35mm Praktica SLR on my Canon 550D DSLR made me want to try out the capabilities of my Prakticar-Pentacon 1.8 50mm prime lens.
